Singer's Blind date is in public eye

A blind date can be nerve wracking, especially when you add TV cameras and starring customers. Melissa Eisenhauer, 19, of Abington got a taste of reality TV when she starred on the show “The VIP” on Boston-based station XY.tv in one of it’s weekly blind date segments.
The episode with Eisenhauer will air at 9pm Wednesday on XY.tv, which is carried on RCN cable channel 109. The show, which features segments on fashion, music, dating, and entertainment, is produced by XY.tv, which focuses on the lives of Generation X and Generation Y.
Eisenhauer tried to ignore the fact that her date was going to be on the air. “I thought about people watching it a little, but I tried to concentrate on the date, not the camera,” she said.

Eisenhauer, also known as the singer, Melissa Jane, said she is more interested in singing than television. She just completed her second year at Berklee College of Music in Boston and has toured with the band 2nd nature and Plaid Daddy. She couldn’t pass up the chance to be on TV, though, when the show’s producers spotted her at her regular hangout, Cassava Boba Lounge on Boylston Street, and asked her to be on the show. The cameras followed her into the restaurant and kept filming during the two-hour date.
A few of her friends came along to watch, along with most of the people in the restaurant.
“I go in there a lot, so I know the people who work there,” she said. “They were all laughing. They thought it was funny.”
While she didn’t say her date was love at first sight, they did have music in common- he is a guitar player. And she said his jokes, while not always funny, helped put her at ease.
Her date, Dan Fallon, works as a host for XY.tv and filled in at the last minute when the guys she was suppose to meet didn’t show up.
Eisenhauer’s mom had her own opinion about the date when Fallon called her during the filming.
“He was defiantly suave,” said Laurie Eisenhauer. “He told me how I must be a extraordinary person to raise such a wonderful, beautiful, talented daughter. My reaction was ‘You certainly must know what to say.’”
The phone call was unexpected but she wasn’t surprised at all by her daughter’s participation in the show.
“She loves the spotlight,” said Eisenhauer’s mother. “If there is a camera, she will jump right in front of it.”
Eisenhauer graduated from Abington High School in 2003 and is known locally for her involvement in community theater and her appearance on Marylou’s Coffee commercials.
She said the reality TV experience was fun, although next time she’s on TV shes hopes to be singing.
As for the blind date, she said, they exchanged e-mails and left it at that for now.
